[Training] 2nd year Capacity Building Program for Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) of Ethiopia

□ Background
capacity building program supported by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for two weeks
three years in a row from 2015-2017 and STEPI was selected as the implementing agency of the program.
○ This is the 2nd year Program for Ethiopian Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) to visit Korea
to gain deeper knowledge in Science & Technology Information and Korea’s S&T development experience.
□ 2nd Year Program Overview
○ Program name: 2nd Year Capacity Building Program for Science and Technology Information Center
(STIC) of Ethiopia
○ Date: June 16th-June 30th (Period: 15 days including arrival & departure date)
○ Location: STEPI, KOICA Training Center (City: Seoul, Seongnam, Sejong, Daejeon)
○ Number of Participants (Total 20): Researchers of Ethiopian Science & Technology Information Center (STIC)
and other relevant government officials from Ethiopian S&T institutes
○ Scope of the 2nd year Training Program: Short term training and education program which include
13 lectures, 4 workshop sessions, and 4 study visits and 2 field trips.
○ Lecturers and instructors of the training program will not only be from STEPI but also from other related
organizations and agencies specializing in S&T Data Analysis and management, technology transfer,
S&T information system and many more.
□ Specific Objectives
○ Promote Deeper Knowledge on S&T Information Analysis
○ Provide more lectures under cooperation with Korean Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI)
on topics such as STI Big data etc.
○ Provide Workshops that promote and assist one’s self-led STI research abilities
□ Expected Outcome
○ Establish Action Plans relevant to current STIC’s goals and Vision
○ Elevate participants’ level of knowledge on Science and Technology Information and strengthen the participants’
field level abilities
○ Increase in exchange between Korea-Ethiopia S&T personnel and future collaborative S&T projects
