[Training] Capacity Building Program for Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) of Ethiopia

□ Background
○ Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) of Ethiopia was selected to participate in the multi-year capacity building program supported by Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) for two weeks three years in a row from 2015-2017 and STEPI was selected as the implementing agency of the program.
○ Ethiopian Government based on the strong belief that S&T policy promotes economic growth, emphasizes on Science Technology Information management and analysis. In link to that belief, Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) was established recently.
○ Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) consists of young, eager researchers that show strong passion in learning but has limited experience to produce research results that link to economic growth.
□ Program Overview
○ Program name : Multi-year Capacity Building Program for Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) of Ethiopia
○ Date: September 10th-September 24th
(Period: 15 days including arrival & departure date)
○ Location: STEPI, KOICA Training Center
○ Number of Participants (Total 20): Researchers of Ethiopian Science and Technology Information Center (STIC)
○ Scope of the 1st year Training Program: Short term training and education program for 20 researchers of STIC including 10 lectures, 3 workshop sessions, and 2 study visits and 2 field visits.
○ Lecturers and instructors of the training program will not only be from STEPI but also from other related organizations and agencies specializing in S&T research and development, technology transfer, S&T data management, information infrastructure and many more.
□ Objectives
○ Raise field experts that have abilities to effectively analyze STI information
○ Foster R&D experts that can produce quality research results regarding National R&D projects
□ Expected Outcome
○ Increase inclusive global STI/ ICT development projects
○ Increase in exchange between Korea-Ethiopia S&T personnel and among Industry-Academia-Research Institutes
○ Promote Korean Style S&T ODA that expedite and strengthen developing countries’ field level abilities
