Title The Ambassador of Republic of Uruguay to Korea Visit STEPI

Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI, President Jong-Guk Song) welcomed H.E. Luis Iribarne, the Ambassador of Republic of Uruguay to Korea to discuss about the project and potential areas of cooperation on October 13, 2016.


Science, technology and Innovation (STI) has been one of Uruguay's priorities for national development since 2005. The Government of Uruguay passed the bill for cretion of National System for Productive Transformation and Competitiveness(SNTPC) in March 2016 with the objective of promoting productive and innovation economic development with sustainability, social, environmental and territorial balance through a systemic perspective.


The visit to STEPI took place upon request to introduce the role of STEPI as the STI policy think-tank that has contributed to the national socioeconomic development and to share the details of the project being conducted by STEPI with the Government of Uruguay.


STEPI is currently conducting a technical cooperation project funded by Inter-American Development Bank to support the Government of Uruguay by providing institutional recommendations for the establishment of the National System for Productive Transformation and Competitiveness.


Ambassador Iribarne expressed great interest on expanding cooperation activities between the two countries in the area of STI policy.
